The Pencil tool’s whole concept is to allow you to draw precisely what you want – as quickly or gradually as you like. The smooth tool in Illustrator is a highly helpful tool. You are probably creating an item using a pencil or pen tool, but you can not always achieve the right curve or boundary. To make the drawing glossier and smoother, use a smooth tool.
Step 1:
To use the pencil tool, pick the pencil icon from the tools dialogue box and draw with it by clicking and dragging, or by pressing N.
Step 2:
When you choose the Pencil Tool, your cursor will transform into a pencil, with an asterisk (*) symbol at the back.
Step 3:
Place the pencil-shaped cursor on the drawing board, then hold down the Shift key.
When you hit the Shift key, the asterisk (*) symbol at the rear of the pencil cursor becomes a straight line ( ).
Step 4:
When you see this line, move the mouse and then left-click to create a straight line.
Step 5:
Change to the Smooth tool. Remember that in order to use the smooth tool, you must be able to see the anchor points on the lines.
Step 6:
Click and draw over the rough edges you wish to smoothen, remembering to keep your mouse still while drawing.
You have successfully created a smooth drawing!
