How To Use Brushes In Adobe Illustrator?

Brushes allow you to stylize the look of pathways. Brush strokes may be applied to existing pathways, or you can use the Paintbrush tool to create a path and add a brush stroke at the same time.

Step 1:

Brushes for the current file are shown in the Brushes panel (Window > Brushes).

Step 2:

Choose a brush from the Brushes panel or a brush library.

Step 3:

Choose the Paintbrush tool.

Step 4:

Drag to create a path after positioning the cursor where you want the brush stroke to begin. As you drag, a dotted line follows the cursor.

Step 5:

Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while dragging to create a closed form. A tiny loop is shown using the Paintbrush tool. When you are ready to collapse the form, release the mouse button (but not the Alt or Option key).

Step 6:

As you sketch, Illustrator creates anchor points. The length and intricacy of the route, as well as the Paintbrush tolerance parameters, influence the number of anchor points.

Step 7:

To change the form of a brushed path after you have finished sketching it, first select it. Then, place the Paintbrush tool on the path and drag until it is the desired form. The method may be used to expand a brushing route or to alter the geometry of the path between the current end points.
