How to use basic feather in Adobe Photoshop?

Feathering may be useful if you want to smooth out edges or produce a blurring effect. It may be helpful for combining two pictures or producing a beautiful vignette. This technique may also be used to create visually beautiful drawings.

Step 1:

The first thing you should do after opening Photoshop is to open your picture. This picture would be put on the backdrop layer, and the size of your canvas would be determined by the size of the image.

Step 2:

When you click Refine Edges, a new menu appears and you enter preview mode.

Step 3:

To apply the modifications to the selection, click the ‘OK’ button.

Step 4:

When you click OK, the feather effect that was visible in the preview mode will be removed from the screen. You will only be able to view the selection of the whole picture, just as you could before you applied the feather effect.

Step 5:

After you have applied the Feather effect to your selection, you may duplicate or cut it off the main picture. You may apply it to another picture or just over a coloured layer.

Step 6

To open a menu, right-click near your selection. Select “Layer via Copy” from the drop-down menu. You will see that a new layer appears in the Layer Panel right away.

Step 7:

Copy the Selected Area to a New Layer

You should be able to see the feather effect on the selection now. We hope you now understand how to feather in Photoshop.
