Creating a distorted mask is not a difficult thing to perform in Adobe Illustrator, you can do it with the simple steps mentioned below:
Step 1:
Choose Object > Envelope Distort > Make With Warp to utilise a predefined warp form for the envelope. Select a warp style and configure parameters in the Warp Options dialogue box.
Step 2:
Choose Object > Envelope Distort > Make With Mesh to create a rectangular grid for the envelope. Set the number of rows and columns in the Envelope Mesh dialogue box.
Step 3:
To utilise an item as the form of the envelope, place it at the top of the stacking order for the chosen object. If it isn’t, use the Layers panel or an Arrange command to move it up and reselect everything. Then choose Object > Envelope Distort > Make With Top Object from the menu.
Step 4:
Using the Direct Selection or Mesh tool, drag any anchor point on the envelope.
Step 5:
To remove an anchor point on the mesh grid, pick it using the Direct Selection or Mesh tools, then click Delete.
Voila you’re done! You have successfully distorted an image in Adobe Illustrator!
