How To Create Half Shape And To Use The Mask In Adobe Illustrator?

In the previous tutorials I taught you how to create half a shape and using reflect tool to make it whole. In this tutorial I will continue with half a shape and show you how to mask it in Adobe Illustrator.

Step 1:

Create Half a shape with the pen tool.

Step 2:

Begin by creating a new print project in Adobe Illustrator with normal letter size specifications. You have the option of changing the unit of measurement to inches.

Step 3:

Choose File > Place to add the hand image (ch6-hand.psd) to the new layer. The picture will be ‘loaded’ by the pointer. Anywhere on the artboard is a good place to start.

Step 4:

In the Layer panel, double-click the icon and choose the “Template” checkbox. The picture will be dark. ‘Background’ should be the name of your layer. Make a new layer on top of this template layer.

Step 5:

Trace the hand using the Pen Tool. Remember to begin and end at the same anchor point. Also, keep in mind that the route does not have to be precise since the Direct Select tool may be used to alter it after it has been generated.

Step 6:

To convert the path to a clipping mask, pick both the route and the picture. To begin, unhide the background template layer. Next, ensure that you are on the hand layer. Click on the path (around the arm/hand) using the Selection Tool, then hold SHFT and click on the picture backdrop somewhere above the arm/hand selection.
