Transforming things entails their movement, rotation, reflection, scaling, and shearing. The Alter panel, the Object > Transform commands, and specialist tools all allow you to transform objects. Additionally, you may make many changes by moving the bounding box of a selection.
Step 1:
When utilising the Transform panel, choose one of the following options from the panel menu: Transform Object Only, Transform Pattern Only, or Transform Both.
Step 2:
When using a transform command, you may define how you wish to convert patterns by setting the Objects and Patterns parameters in the appropriate dialogue box. For instance, if you wish to change the pattern but not the object, choose Patterns and deselect Objects.
Step 3:
When dragging a transform tool, hold down the tilde key () to alter patterns but not objects. Although the object’s boundaries seem to be changed, when the mouse button is released, the borders revert to their previous configuration, leaving just the pattern transformed.
Step 4:
Select Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or Illustrator > Preferences > General (Mac OS) and uncheck Transform Pattern Tiles.
Step 5:
To restore an object’s original fill pattern, fill it with a solid colour and then reselect the desired pattern.
Voilà! You’re all set. Check out more of our videos and learn more.
