How To Create Backgrounds With Black And White Images And To Create Sepia In Adobe Photoshop?

Sepia is an effect that has been used for a long time to give a touch of warmth to black and white photos. It is made comprised of a taupe-coloured tint applied to a black and white picture to give it that unique sepia appearance. This was achieved in the cinema era via the use of film tinting. Sepia is often produced on film by processing the picture with silver sulphide ferrocyanide. Nowadays, we can simply recreate the effect using Photoshop.

Step 1:

Normally, a sepia tone effect is created by utilising a picture that is completely black and white.

Step 2:

Next, I applied a curves adjustment layer with a small S-curve to boost contrast while also tapering off blacks and whites.

Step 3:

Create a new layer with a solid colour adjustment. Choose a taupe hue that complements what you are attempting to accomplish.

Step 4:

Change the adjustment layer’s blend mode to Colour. This will just retain the colour from that layer, but the brightness will be supplied by the layers underneath it.

Simply adjust the opacity of the layer to get the desired look and you have successfully created a sepia tone in your picture! Check out more of our tutorials to learn more about graphics design.
