Knowing how to retouch a picture in Adobe Photoshop is useless unless you know how to make the retouching undetectable. Instead, feathering a selection (blurring its borders) creates a natural-looking transition between the selection and the image’s backdrop.
To feather a picture, do the following steps:
Step 1:
Create a selection.
Step 2:
To pick the nonfeathered picture at the top, use the Elliptical Marquee tool. Then copy the selection, make a new, blank picture, and paste the selection into it.
Step 3:
Select Modify Feather from the dropdown menu.
Step 4:
In the Feather dialogue box, enter a value in the Feather Radius text area and then click OK.
Step 5:
Create a selection around the area of a picture you wish to brighten using any selection technique.
Step 6:
Select Image> Adjustments> Curves.
Step 7:
To brighten the picture, click in the middle of the curve to create an anchor point and drag up.
